Automatic on-screen text translation developed for Paris 2024
For the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, which began in July 2024, Qoncept developed an automatic translation system that analyzes English on-screen text in the international feed, such as athlete and event names, and replaces it with the corresponding Japanese names in real time.
A single MacBook Pro performs caption-layout recognition, including list formats, single-shot formats, and sponsor-logo positions, along with OCR and matching against an athlete-name database. The system can also automatically recognize additional information such as Paralympic sport classes and whether a person is a guide.
The system is intended to continue supporting future summer and winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
February 6, 2026 update
The system developed for the Paris Games was also used at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
